New Struik Leaf Clippers

A foliage cutter trims the crop shortly before you apply a defoliant or harvest it. Rovadi supplies Struik foliage cutters, available for front- or rear-mount on a tractor and in multi-row configurations. Below you can see the available models. Not sure which foliage cutter is right for your row spacing and tractor? We’d be happy to help you choose.

Foliage Flaps with Shrub

Why prune the foliage?

Foliage folding is a standard step in the cultivation of potatoes and flower bulbs. Struik developed these machines, among other things, to kill the foliage around seed potatoes and bulbs, thereby preventing the spread of viral infections. In practice, many growers and contractors fold the foliage first and then spray it, sometimes in a single pass using a foliage folder attached to the tractor.

What you can choose from Struik's leaf-clappers:

  • On the front or back of the tractor, or as a combination of front and back
  • Models for multiple rows with a row spacing of 75 cm
  • Models with side shift, such as the LKB Shift 1500, which can move sideways
  • A compact front-tilting loader with a mechanically driven discharge conveyor, the FLKB

Pay attention to row spacing, working width, and combination

Start with your cropping system. The row spacing and the number of rows determine the working width you need. Next, consider the tractor: Do you have enough lifting capacity for a front- or rear-mounted implement, and do you want to combine the leaf cutter with another machine?

For example, a machine with a side shift and side-discharge of foliage is designed to work in conjunction with a miter harvester. This prevents the foliage from being drawn into the harvester. For those who fold and spray, a combination with a foliage folder is a good option. If you have a different setup or a specific question, please contact us. We’ll work with you to find the right foliage folder for your operation.
